Terms of service
Last updated: 17 July 2026
These terms cover merchants who install Restock Relay on a Shopify store. Shoppers who receive an alert are not party to them — if that is you, the pages you want are unsubscribe help and the privacy policy.
1. What the service does
Restock Relay lets shoppers on your storefront request an email alert for an out-of-stock product variant, and sends them one transactional email when that variant is available again. That is the whole product: no SMS, no push notifications, no pre-orders, no price-drop alerts, no marketing campaigns.
2. Plans and billing
Billing runs through Shopify’s managed app billing; your Shopify invoice is the record. Paid plans include a 7-day free trial. Plans and limits are listed on the pricing section of the home page.
We will never charge you more than the price of your plan. There is no usage-based billing, no per-email fee and no overage. If you want to spend less, downgrade; we will never make that decision for you by sending you a bill.
3. Fair use policy for “unlimited” plans
The Flat and Pro plans include unlimited alert emails. “Fair use” here is not a licence to invoice you — it only describes the speed at which we deliver. Concretely:
- Full-speed thresholds. The Flat plan sends at full speed up to 25,000 emails per month; the Pro plan up to 250,000.
- Above the threshold we shape, we do not charge. Delivery is throttled and we notify you. Your alerts still go out — they go out slower. There is never an extra charge, and never a silent hard stop.
- On the Free plan the allowance is 500 emails per month. Alerts beyond it are queued, not dropped: we hold them for up to 72 hours, we re-check that the product is genuinely still available immediately before sending, and anything still queued after 72 hours expires rather than arriving stale. You will see an upgrade banner in the app; you will not see a surprise invoice.
- Abuse is the exception. If a store’s sending behaviour endangers the deliverability of other stores on the shared infrastructure, we may suspend sending for that store. We will tell you why, and we will tell you what to fix.
4. Acceptable use
By installing Restock Relay you agree that:
- You will use it only for back-in-stock alerts that the recipient requested. It is not a marketing tool and must not be used as one.
- Any list you import is a list of people who asked you for restock alerts. Purchased, rented, scraped or otherwise non-consenting lists are prohibited. Imported addresses are re-validated, the first send is ramped in small batches, and it halts automatically if bounces exceed 5% of the first 100 results — and imported lists can only be mailed from your own DKIM-verified sending domain, never from the shared one.
- You will not remove, disable or obscure the unsubscribe footer, and you will not try to re-subscribe an address that unsubscribed, bounced or complained.
- You are the data controller for your subscribers. You are responsible for having a privacy notice that covers collecting their addresses, and for honouring their requests. See our privacy policy for what we do as your processor.
5. Your data
Your subscriber list is yours. Every plan, including Free, includes a complete CSV export with the addresses in the clear. We do not hold it hostage, mask it, or charge you to leave with it.
6. Sending domain
On paid plans you can send from your own domain. That requires you to add DNS records we give you; until DKIM verifies, and on the Free plan, alerts are sent from our shared authenticated domain with your store name in the From line and your address in Reply-To. We will never put your domain in the From line without verified DKIM. If your DKIM records later stop resolving, we fall back to the shared domain automatically and notify you — an alert from a working sender beats a bounce.
7. What we do not promise
We are honest about the mechanism: authenticated sending, list hygiene and one-click unsubscribe. We cannot promise that any individual email reaches any individual inbox — no sender can, because that decision belongs to the receiving mail provider. We do not guarantee uninterrupted service, and the service is provided as is, without warranties beyond those that cannot be excluded by law. We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, including lost sales from an alert that was delayed or not delivered.
8. Suspension and termination
You can uninstall at any time from your Shopify admin; billing stops per Shopify’s rules and sending stops immediately. We may suspend or terminate an account that breaches section 4, or where sending behaviour is damaging shared infrastructure. Export your list before you uninstall — after uninstall, data deletion proceeds as described in the privacy policy.
9. Changes
If these terms change materially we will update the date above and notify installed merchants in-app. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept it.
